The GREAT Wall

ne cool night, a girl called Emily and her group of friends traveled on 'The Great Wall Of China'. “Oh,
Emily! This long wall is making my legs ache! It's so long!” Emily looked at her younger sister. “Yep,
Jane. It is long and it is 5,500 miles (8,852 kilometers)!” replied Emily, yawning. “When was this
built, Emily?” piped another friend. “During the Ming Dynasty which is 1368- 1644”, said Emily.
Well, Emperor Qin wanted a strong construction to protect the country, so he got some criminals
and other people who annoyed him to build together, ' The Great Wall Of China',” she continued, “which is
really hard to build!” The cool breeze went through some tiny holes and broken parts of the famous wall.
Watch out, Sissy! There are some broken holes on your front! This wall has been built a long time ago and
parts are missing now!!!!!!” “Oh, Thanks! I would have stepped in that silly broken part if you haven't warned
me!” said Sissy, leaping across some holes.

The girls were looking out for the end of this wall. The girls looked at the long zig-zagging wall. “It sure is
a long way, Emily”, shouted Jane, ahead of them. Jane ran back. “I heard that there was someone who died
when he was building this wall”, she said, looking down. “Emporer Qin is sure smart to think of building this
protective wall”, said Sissy. “Even though we don't have war anymore, it's still good to come here and visit this
wall”, said Emily, looking at the sky. The girls ran and ran and ran and ran and ran until they were at the end of
the great wall. Panting and gasping for breath, the girls stepped out of the Great Wall of China. “Oh, there is
Jack Lee, the boy, who knows a lot about the Great Wall! Let's ask for some information!”
Ok, I'll tell you about it!” said Jack. “The Great Wall of China ‘zig-zags’ central-east Asia and it is an
incredible structure. It took over a thousand years to build and is over 1500 miles in length. It is the longest,
oldest, most time consuming construction project ever attempted in history. It is said that the Great Wall can be
seen from Earth orbit, although there is some dispute regarding this. It is only when cameras are used that
sections of the wall can be differentiated from the surrounding countryside.
The Great Wall was built for defensive purposes, especially to stop attack from the north of China. The
Wall stretches across deserts and up and down mountain ranges. Building started in the Qin dynasty and
continued until the Jin dynasty. The Great Wall was part of a Chinese strategy of preventing mass invasion. In
the early years, the walls were made of rammed earth but as hundreds of years passed, more sophisticated
methods of building were developed with rocks, bricks and mortar being used. It is estimated that over one
million people helped in the construction of the Great Wall”, said Jack, pointing at the great wall. “I still don't
understand! Why did they make the great wall so long?” asked Yan Yan, looking at Jack. “So they could protect
more people in China!!!” said Jack, drawing a zig-zagging wall and some people far away. “The further it goes,
the more people it protects”, said Jack, showing them the map. “Ohhhhhhhhhh! That's why they made it so long,
I understand now, Jack.” said Yan Yan, looking at the long, long, long, long historical protecting wall. “Oh, we
have a message from our mom!” said Jane, peeking at Emily's phone. “Sis, open it, open it, sis!!!!!!!” exclaimed
Jane, jumping up and down. “Oh, it must be the information she promised to give us about the Great Wall,
friends!!!!!!” said Emily, opening the message.
Emily read: “My Dear Honey, I have researched all the information for you in the book of the historical
projects after all my housework and taking care and feeding our dog. In this book I have found that the Great
Wall was built for a long time just because we needed to defend attacks from the north. The Great Wall is so
long just because the longer it is the more it protects. You will see that there are broken and missing parts from
the Great Wall because it had been built for a long time and now it is turning very old indeed. The book also
says that we could go there and see a person buried because he died when he was working. Every year, his wife
would bring him clothes but sadly when she went there 10 years later, she found him dead and was buried in the
land below the Great Wall. It says that over a million people helped to build the great wall and many were
criminals and people who annoyed the emperor. After the emperor's death, the building work still went on. But
then, people died and workers got injured and diseases spread around. Still, people were building it. Years after
the construction ended, people started walking on the Great Wall of China even the world has changed and there
was no war anymore. The tourists went 'Wowwwww' and they got tired halfway and thought it was challenging
because it was so long! People now still think the construction is the best even though it is broken now!!!!!!! But
I agree with them, the construction is the longest and most consuming project in the world and universe. There
are lots of holes and please warn your friends and your little sister not to step in the holes. Give Jane and your
friends my love, sweetie! We should be really thankful for that historical project even though it is not in the
museum. We should be mostly thankful for the people who built it! Hope you understand, Emily, my dear
honey!!!! If you pass the whole Great Wall, take a photo of the end and you will all get a prize when you come
